What SIL means
Supported Independent Living is support delivered in a participant’s home, often in a shared-living arrangement. Depending on an approved plan and the agreed support model, it may assist with personal care, household routines, meal preparation, developing daily-living skills, community participation and overnight support. SIL funding generally relates to support, not ordinary living costs such as rent, groceries, utilities or personal expenses. Funding and service suitability must be confirmed for each participant.
What STA means
Short Term Accommodation is a temporary support arrangement. Whether STA is available and can be funded depends on the participant’s circumstances, current NDIS rules, plan and agreed supports. It is not automatically funded for holidays or general housing. We discuss the purpose of the stay, required support, dates, risks, personal care, medication arrangements, transport and what is included before confirming anything.
Who may find a shared-home conversation useful?
The page may help an adult participant exploring a move, a parent or guardian planning for a young adult, or a support coordinator comparing safe and sustainable options. A diagnosis alone does not decide suitability. We look at the whole person, including communication, mobility, personal care, daily rhythms, culture, language, interests, sensory preferences, behaviours of concern, overnight needs and how the participant wants decisions made.
How compatibility is considered
Shared living affects every person in the home. A suitable arrangement requires more than an available room. With appropriate consent, we consider household routines, age and life stage, communication styles, noise and sensory preferences, smoking or pets where relevant, visitors, shared spaces, community interests, sleep patterns, staffing requirements and any assessed risks. Existing residents’ rights, privacy and tenancy arrangements are respected. A participant can ask questions, involve trusted supporters and take time to consider the option.
From first enquiry to a possible move or stay
- Initial capacity check: tell us the preferred location, support type, timing and minimum information needed to understand the request.
- Consent and support discussion: we clarify who may exchange information and explore the participant’s goals, support needs and funding pathway.
- Property and household fit: if the enquiry may be suitable, we privately explain relevant property features, current household information and availability.
- Meet and consider: appropriate introductions or a viewing can be arranged without pressuring the participant to proceed.
- Agreements and transition planning: housing and support responsibilities, prices, rosters, risks, transition steps and review arrangements are documented before commencement.
Information for families, support coordinators and LACs
For a useful first capacity check, provide the participant’s preferred suburb, desired timing, SIL or STA purpose, current living situation, essential accessibility or staffing needs, communication preferences, plan-management type and who has consent or authority to discuss the enquiry. A full plan and detailed clinical records are not required through the public website form. If an enquiry progresses, we will explain what further information is genuinely necessary and how it can be shared securely.

Frequently asked questions
Are both properties shared homes?
Yes. The Orelia and Gosnells options described here are shared-home settings. Orelia accepts SIL and STA enquiries, while Gosnells is for SIL enquiries only. Current room status, housemate compatibility and property suitability must be confirmed directly.
Why are the street addresses not shown?
We protect the privacy and safety of people living in or using the homes. Suitable prospective participants and authorised representatives can receive relevant property details privately during the enquiry process.
Is there a current SIL or STA vacancy in Orelia?
We are accepting SIL and STA enquiries for the shared home in Orelia. Availability remains subject to the requested dates, participant needs, household compatibility, funding and final agreements.
Is STA available in Gosnells?
No. The Gosnells shared home is offered for SIL enquiries only. Please contact us for its current room status.
Can family or a support coordinator attend a viewing?
Yes, where the participant agrees or the person has appropriate authority. The participant should remain central to the discussion and decision.
Does SIL funding pay the rent?
SIL funding generally pays for eligible supports in the home, not rent and ordinary household expenses. Housing costs, support charges and personal expenses should be explained separately.
Can I use a different provider for some supports?
Participant choice and control applies. The practical arrangements, responsibilities, risks and any funding implications should be discussed clearly before services begin.
Can you guarantee that the NDIS will fund SIL or STA?
No. Access4All cannot approve or guarantee NDIS funding. The NDIA decides reasonable and necessary funded supports, and the participant should confirm what is included in their plan.
