Participants should be able to ask how a provider selects, prepares, supervises and reviews workers. Access4All discusses the skills and safeguards required for the requested role before confirming a worker match.

What to ask about a support worker

Matching beyond a checklist

A clearance does not prove that two people will communicate well or share compatible expectations. Matching can consider schedule, communication, culture, language, gender preference where relevant, interests, sensory needs, transport, pets and the participant’s preferred level of family involvement. Availability must still be confirmed.

Worker information and privacy

Access4All can discuss relevant capabilities and matching information without publishing private employment records. Participants may ask reasonable questions about the proposed support arrangement before agreeing to regular services.

Participant feedback

Early feedback can address communication, punctuality, boundaries, activity planning or support style. If a match is not working, the participant can raise the issue and discuss reasonable alternatives. A different worker is subject to suitable availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Independent safeguards

Read the NDIS Commission’s participant guide to finding and managing supports and information about worker screening for participants.

Frequently asked questions

Does worker screening guarantee service quality?

No. Screening is one safeguard. Skills, conduct, communication, supervision and participant feedback also matter.

Can I ask for a worker with particular interests or cultural understanding?

Yes. Tell us what matters. Matching depends on the available team and the requirements of the role.

Can Access4All publish individual worker profiles?

Only verified, appropriate information should be published with the worker’s permission. Ask us directly about a proposed match.
